It is disappointing but nevertheless true that my mailbag, e-mails etc over the last month or so, has in the main being about the one issue – the continual noise eminating from the motorcycle track at Kieradan Park, Scotter Road especially on Saturdays and Sundays.
The complaints are not just coming from my own constituents in Bottesford and Yaddlethorpe but further afield as well.
Now no one wishes to be a party pooper and no one wants to stand in the way of youngsters enjoying themselves but by the same token I’m sure that everyone has the right to piece and quiet in the privacy of their own homes especially at the end of a full working week.
What are your thoughts on the issue ?
Normally I’m on the same page with you Steve, but not on this one, the motorcycle park is a dedicated facility located well out of town and while I agree I can hear it right over the other side of Bottesford (with the right conditions) the noise is only on a Saturday / Sunday afternoon.
Surely its more responsible to promote the use of safe, organised facilities in an attempt to combat antisocial motorcycle use and behaviour like this which has been reported on Visit Scunthorpe (below) which endangers both the riders and members of the public…

No problems, I was seeking views from both sides on the issue and attempted (though might not have succeeded) to leave it as an open question.
yes as a rider im obviously going to dissagree with it being a problem as recently my 5 year old son had his first very low noise 15mph bike taken from us by the police during an adult accompanied first ride on a peice of outskirts wasteland,we went there as the kids track is too advanced for a first time run, motocross is a very physical sport that involves youngsters to have to train hard at school sports etc to become good, trust me one lap of a circuit would have most adults on the floor gasping for breath, ive been there myself!
it also takes pure concerntration to be a good rider and gives them plenty to focus on and to save spare pennys for.
thanks for your time
I’m sure some people would complain that the wind was too noisey,it’s young and old alike having a facility they can share together doing a sport they are passionate about.Of course you get a little noise(they are useing 4 and 2 stroke engines)but it is not obtrusive. We need more places like this one to keep people off the greenlanes where there is no supervision and fatalities occure. What.s a little engine noise, sounds better than a emergancy siren
I can see the above points of view and they are difficult to disagree with. Facilities like this do of course help to keep people safe whilst participating in a sport they no doubt enjoy – that can’t be argued.
What is concerning to me as a resident though, is that we are currently in the darker months, a time when typically people spend less time in the garden. As such, I currently find the noise level just about tolerable for the short amount of time I have to endure it. In the spring and summer months I like to relax in the garden of a weekend, it’s very doubtful I will then hold the same view.
I was never consulted during any proposed plan for the racetrack and yet I find my quality of life could be set to suffer from it. It’s doubtful I am alone in this view.
As the track owner i am open to sugestions to make it work for the local residents as well as the riders using the kieradan park. Please remember the jobs we provide for the local teenagers, the buisnesses that benifit from the park and the local kids that use our facility. This is a family sport and if policed correctly can work for all. I would like to meet cllr swift so we could engage in some discusions about the best way forward! I am a local buisness man with family and friends in the area so i am 100% comitted to making this fantastic facility work for Scunthorpe and surrounding areas, lets make it work for all!
